KINGFISHER Series 14

Its been a resonably good Kingfisher season with them being down at the Estuary crabbing - I guess getting some fat on to last them through breeding when they head for the hills and cliff faces. I've been doing Kingy's for a number of years but I haven't had a serious summer hunt for nesting birds. The only nesting ones I saw was in Auckland.
Anyway - todays birds are interesting in that The one with the Speckled chest ( at right) is a youngster. ( MPP put me straight on this ) I used to think it was the hen. Next season he'll be non-speckled. I think ( he) as he's a bit bigger than the other - but then thats not certain either as research shows they are generally the same size. I'm going for him being a young cock bird.
I wondered if he was eyeing up the other bird as his mate.
My experience is they dont fight within themselves but they are very territorial in relation to others. OK. here's number 14 in the series. Hope you're not too sick of them??
