White Nancy
A splendid walk on the hottest day of the year. The high point (literally) was White Nancy, which overlooks Bollington, seen here with Chris (Eptas), Martin and Andy trying to pose for an album cover. White Nancy was built in 1817 by John Gaskell junior of North End Farm to commemorate the victory at the Battle of Waterloo.
The painting thanks "Dr John." The Bollington Festival takes place every four or five years. The festival was the idea of John Coope, a doctor. Dr John set out in the 1960s to create in the village a sense of community to counteract what he saw as a drift away from the collective towards the individual, and his work continued until his death on Christmas Day 2008.
The walk took us from Macclesfield to Prestbury and then on to Bollington. Refreshments were taken.
