Little & large

This was one of the nice contrasts I found in the moth trap this morning. It was a really big catch after the thunder and lightening and torrential rain overnight...and the good thing was that only three or four moths were drowned in the bottom of the trap. Some of the egg boxes were soaked, but the moths seemed happy enough.

This particular scene featured easily the largest moth in the trap, a Privet Hawkmoth, with a forewing length of over 50mm and huddled up next to it, one of the smaller moths, a species of grass veneer with a forewing length of no more than 12mm. There were much smaller micro-moths with forewings only about 6mm long, but none willing to snuggle up to this monster. What amazing variety!
