Masindi
Back on the traveler's schedule, sunrise to sundown. 5am wakeup to grab a matatu to Hoima. We're traveling the back roads of Uganda now, bumpy dirt tracks through beautiful secluded landscapes and valleys covered in mist and dew, illuminated by the rays of sunrise. The trip took about 4 hours, Ali and me sat in the back row and Kris just in front. We got to Hoima, a busy town in the middle of nowhere, where we were accosted by plenty of people wanting to give us a lift to wherever. Quite an experience, in the middle of the busy bus stop, but we managed to pick our man from the throng. This guy with the most beat up taxi ever. The car was pretty much a husk and the windshield was broken. 30,000 for the ride to Masindi though, was worth it even though we were caked in red dust by the end of the hour long drive. Couple police stops didn't phase us too much, and the journey was quite scenic.
We got to Masindi, a standard Ugandan town not unlike Kasese, with lots of traffic going through. This shot is taken from within Alinda guest house, where we were staying. We spent the rest of the day planning our trip into Murchison Falls National Park, which is the reason we've come up north. We met our soon-to-be-guide Mohammed, with whom we negotiated for driving and guiding for the next two days. Then a couple of beers and lunch at Traveller's Corner, the local bar! We visited the local market for supplies for the trip and brolexes. We're starting the safari tomorrow, so psyched!
