Water Tower
There must be some great views from the balcony up on the top of this converted water tower. Throughout Britain there are many water towers which are now obsolete but this has been converted into a multi award winning house.
A landmark in Dalkeith it is the 33 metre (80 foot) high red brick octagonal Water Tower. It is thought to be the oldest building of its kind in Scotland and was built in 1879 costing £1,330 and held about 18,000 gallons of water which served Dalkeith and Eskbank until it was closed in 1950 when it was inadequate for the water demand. It remained empty until 1988 when it was bought and converted into a house with seven floors and an added balcony. It must be lovely to sit there sipping a refreshing drink and marvel at the views over the trees and river across Midlothian, Edinburgh and Fife.
