A stitch in time....

After a lovely breakfast we went out into the sunshine and caught the bus to The Scottish Parliament to view The Great Tapestry of Scotland. I've been wanting to see it for a long time and at last had the opportunity. We had not really realised how long it was , stretching 143 metre long making it the longest tapestry in the world. It depicts Scotland from the Ice age to modern times. Over 1000 stitchers helped create the 160 panels using 300 miles of wool !

It's impossible to choose a favourite panel as each has something different that attracts the attention. This is part of panel 75, James Boswell and Smoked Fish. I really liked the colours used and the close stitching to make the small fishing village of Arbroath.

We even made a stitch on the peoples panel also designed by Andrew Crummy which will hang in the Scottish Parliament as part of their 15th Anniversary celebrations.Great to be part of history in the making.

We finished our visit with a walk down the whole of the Royal Mile. We stopped at a small garden called Dunbar Close Gardens where we recharged our batteries and continued our walk looking at all the impressive buildings and the street entertainers that performed underneath, including a floating Yoda :)
