The Hidden City.
Inside the Victorian-era building of the Mercat del Born, the streets of Eighteenth Century Barcelona lie revealed as part of the El Born Centre Cultural.
Dating from the fall of the city to Bourbon troops after the siege of 1714, during the Spanish Wars of Succession, the archaeological remains began to be unearthed between November 2001 and April 2002, with intermittent progress in the decade that followed after the discovery shelved original 1998 plans for a library on the site; uncovering over 8 000 square-metres of the old district of La Vilanova del Mar which allow, along with notarial records still extant from that period, for a detailed history of these very streets to be reconstructed.
