Severe

Not the most dynamic shot - but worth recording- my friend Matt's first Severe lead climb.
To a non climber that sentence probably makes little sense, so;
lead climb - climbing whilst taking the rope up with you, placing protection as you go - far more risk than having the rope above you as a 'second'.
Severe- the grade of difficultness. Climbing grades seem a little odd Running from Moderate, to Difficult then Very Difficult, through Severe to Very Severe to Hard Very Severe (I kid you not) to Extreme - the extreme's are now sub divided from E1 - E10.

The vast bulk of people climb around the Very Difficult level - perhaps three or four climb at E9 and above regularly - so for Matt - or anyone starting out then today was a great achievement.
