Buttertups!
A truly lovely summer's day so we decided to head in to the Dales for a last look at the glorious celebrations on the Tour De France route for stage 1 before it all disappears.
Lots of bunting and yellow bikes still in place especially in the villages but we had seen quite a lot of this when we stayed in Hawes back in May. I'm sure most of it will stay in place for the summer.
We had lunch at the White Lion at Cray or should I say 'Cote de Cray'. Lots of people out including many cyclists over the Buttertubs pass. Enjoyed seeing some of the writing on the roads, my favourite being 'Wot no Wiggo' on the Cote de Grinton'. These names are definitely going to stick now!
We had tea and cake in Reeth, the most northerly point of the Tour and generally had a most enjoyable day.
The best sight of course was the wondrous countryside so here I have combined the limestone wall scenery of Upper Wharfedale near Kettlewell with the unmissable yellow sheep, yes yellow, in the foreground. See LARGE
Sad to hear that Froome is out due to further falls today in heavy rain in France after injuring his wrist in a fall yesterday.
Will be in Edinburgh tomorrow so will be leaving it all behind, though I have no doubt it will be part of the conversation on the train, (might even have a shot at stage two next week when I get back!)
Hopefully will have wifi in the home of Blip but can't guarantee it.
