Now, as I see it......

Donkey Train

The high winds yesterday died down by late afternoon and went altogether overnight, leaving just a light breeze this morning. We decided to go down to the harbour before the day trip boats from Rhodes arrived, to buy a few things we wanted to take home with us. On the way down we passed the donkey train coming up; because the whole area is built on a steep hill and with lots of narrow lanes and steps, the only way that building materials can be brought up to the many house renovations going on is by donkey train. Apparently, it's not a cheap option; there is only one donkey train so he has cornered the market. I'm pleased to report that all the donkeys look healthy, well fed and well looked after, and in the middle of the train is a foal, no doubt being taught the routes until he is old enough to carry his own load.

As I write this, all the churches in the area are ringing their bells. I don't know if there is some special celebration this evening but we may find out later.
