World (Cup) weary

Head down into work today (Monday, Monday), but had to watch at least the last part of the France v. Nigeria and Germany v. Algeria matches – rooting for the underdogs, of course. Terrific matches, and what a fight the two losing teams put up. Didn’t manage to get out to test the mood in the streets, but assumed the partying might be more discreet than after a Latino win.

My brother’s birthday, so had a lovely chat with him. He sounded unusually cheerful – and sister-in-law overjoyed to have centre court tickets for Wimbledon tomorrow. Too bad that the football and the tennis clash – just can’t afford the time to watch them both.

His marathon journey round Brazil caught up with one of our guests tonight – fast asleep before his head hit the pillow.
