Sheesha pipes in Islamic Cairo
Back blip
We hadn't been to Khan Al Khalili market on this trip, so decided to squeeze in a visit. We took a taxi there just after Iftar (the breaking of the fast during Ramadan) and couldn't believe how quickly we sped through through deserted streets. A walk back in time, through alleyways which won't have seen many changes for many years. We wandered through the un touristy part first (where I got this pic) and where there are many little workshops producing the goods sold in the main market. We then dodged the cars and crossed the busy street over to the main part of the market. I think in the hour and a half we walked, we only saw another two foreigners.
Other than that, we walked in Zamalek, where Bb got his last set of prints to give to the 'Cilantro coffee boys', Bb had two coaching sessions in the morning, I made a couple of last day clothes purchases, we had some baba ganoush and baladi bread for lunch and a wee break in one of the big hotels on the Nile, and then after Khan Al Khalili we met with my co-trainer by the pool in the hotel across the square from our flat for a catch up, Greek salad and chips and to catch some of the Algeria v Germany football match.
