Partying With The Orange People

Holland v Mexico at 5:00pm!

A lovely, leisurely start to a Sunday morning. Chores done, then all (semi) glammed up for a day/evening in London. It was a little cooler today than during the week, and I had borrowed a dress from my sister that I wanted to wear. I decided to wear it anyway, as the pub is always steamy with all those bodies in there!

I drove to guy friend's place at lunchtime, and parked in my usual space, as it was a Sunday. We caught the train to Waterloo, and then I got a step-by-step guide on how to use the tube instead of taking a taxi :-) I have been on the tube loads of times, but not alone, as my navigational skills are somewhat limited. It's not that hard if you know what you're doing. It seemed to take as long as a taxi, so I think I'll just stick to that in future.

We walked up to the pub and it was nice to walk straight in- perk of coming wit the DJ :-) Great atmosphere, and the sea of orange people quickly built up. My friend was doing the 2 hours before the game to warm everybody up, and then the after party later. Some friends were supposed to come, but they texted to say they were in the huge queue outside. Thankfully I wasn't one of them this time! After a couple of hours I think they gave up and went off to find somewhere else to watch it.

I ended up watching the game on the huge TV right above me, which means looking almost vertically upward to see it- cue huge neck ache! It wasn't going very well for NL, with lots of chances missed, and seemingly desperate moves. Their defending was very good though. Mexico scored, much to the dismay of everybody here. By 85 minutes, it was looking like it was all over for Holland. My friend feared that everybody would just vacate the pub afterwards, sensing his set might not be well received :-) All of a sudden someone scored, and the whole pub started screaming, etc! All of a sudden they were in with a chance. It went to extra time, and then finally they were awarded a penalty. And that pretty much sealed the deal!

2-1 Holland! Let's just say the atmosphere was rather lively! Everybody was in great spirits, and another three hours of largely Dutch music ensued. We did sneak the odd bit of dance and trance in too! We got to talking with two girls and a guy that hung out at our table. When my friend took a break, he kept trying to sneak in his request via the laptop, while I had to defend the DJ's territory! It was all good, and there was a lot of banter, and it was quite fun being referred to as " the Dj's missus"
:-)

It finished a little earlier being Sunday night, and we were back at Waterloo by 11pm. Luckily for me, Pret was still open, so I grabbed a hot chocolate- I was starving! We had a good chat on the train, and then walked home to bed. I stayed as I was too tired to drive home- we had arranged that I would stay. It was weird to get to bed a bit earlier, but we were both tired so it was probably a good thing.

It was a good and fun day, but every now and then a funny feeling kept creeping into me, and spoilt it a little. Sigh. Life, hey?
