Traditional Costume .....

...... of Croatia.

Today we visited the Old City of Dubrovnik and decided the best way to get our bearings of the city as well as the history was to go on a walking tour with a guide.
Here is Andrea our guide, a young teacher who studied German and Russian but due to the economy cannot get a teaching job, discussing aspects of the local traditional costume with a lady who carries on with the art of hand making a variety of costumes , dolls etc.
They were discussing how such costumes are often handed down for generations and Andrea told us that all she was left with after the Homeland War was one of her grandmother's earrings - her costumes had been destroyed.
It was a fascinating tour and personally I had no idea how badly damaged the Old City had been during the war of 1991 - it is quite amazing how well the city has been repaired although it is very obvious from the roof tiles how few buildings still have the original yellow tiles.
We have a 3 day pass to many of the visitor attractions so will try to do the city wall walk tomorrow.
