The Beeches of Burcombe...

Monday 23rd June

OK, it's not quite Burcombe, which is along a bit and down in the valley below but somehow their real name is far less romantic sounding....

Beeches
Cool tall and graceful
Majestic and so English
Nestling on the hilltop
Looking out, valley-wards.

Not my best prose but did write it yesterday evening whilst the TV news was babbling on, the kettle was boiling and the beans for tea sticking to the pan...

Lens is Nikkor 16-85mm VR

Huge thanks to ALL who got my summer flowers Blip into the Spotlights!

Will get back to Blip more tomorrow as I'm - wait for it! - meeting my friend Des in that most idyllic paradise, yes, Basingstoke.

Titter ye not, as Frankie Howerd would have said - it's 1/3rd the price to get to (and back) by train (for me) than London and we have Odiham Castle, Silchester Roman Walls and Old Basing House lined up - total cost entry to all, £5. Des likes his bit of old history and a chance to get out of the Big Smoke. There's also some quite interesting (photographically, of course) modern office blocks for me and some actually quite pleasant old town quarters. One just usually sees it (hurriedly!) from either the M3 or railway track and I once said that the epitome of sublime culture was Basingstoke Bus Station. My friend Hadrian just laughed and laughed and bloody well laughed at that one...

As Blips are all five days late, the resulting photo won't go up until next Thursday, or so.

See you lovely lot later!
