I'll just have to wait.

The Tour de France will come close to us on day 2 (Sunday 6th July) but some people are going to get the bikes flying past their front door. Penny Bun has started a count down to the big day (probably a once in a lifetime experience for the UK) so be sure to follow her journal.

The people of Glossop are interested and getting a little excited but also disappointed that the riders don't actually come through the town. I felt sure they would want to go over the Snake Pass to Sheffield but no its the Woodhead pass they will use.

The town is full of Don't park here on the 6th July signs - with almost as many this street is going to be One Way only on the 6th July - Road Closed signs for 5th July also appearing with even more for 6th July. Vast numbers of spectators are expected to head for Holme Moss on our side (Derbyshire) for the descent from the highest point on the route and an incredibly sharp hairpin bend they will have to negotiate for the left turn to head East to Sheffield to get back into Yorkshire as quick as possible.

Glossop without having the streets cleared and a one-way system put in place would I'm sure have just become gridlocked even of only a tenth of the expected numbers arrived by car - I'm not sure that it will work but it may be just as exciting to watch as the cyclists themselves.

Anyway I'm OK I've got my Allez Glossop leaflet and that is my passport to get around the streets that are open if I needed to but I have no intention of using the car that day. Its Glossop Carnival that day as well so the option to watch the Tour de France riders on a big screen in the park is one way but of course it will be on TV at home which is bound to be the best way of watching the action.

The fastest rider on the hill climbs is The King of The Mountains and to celebrate Grumpy Mule Coffee from the Yorkshire side of Holme Moss - the uphill side have produced a special edition of that name. I have resisted opening it for 2 days now and have decided I'll just have to wait until we can raise a mug full to honour the man who wins the title.
