Waverley Steps

Lunchtime swim, nice and fast (for me anyway). Two lunches. No world cup.

We've reached the end of the first decade of the new millenium on my musical journey (2009 if you were confused) and a song that caught me completely by surprise at the time. How did a bunch of garage revivalists produce such an epic, swirling, gothic masterpiece? The album this was taken from, Primary Colours, is still the Horrors finest moment. I think they got the balance between parody and innovation just right on this release, others have tipped too close to parody. It took a while to convince people that the Horrors had actually released something worth listening, but few could argue when confronted with the evidence that is Sea Within a Sea.

As well as the last year of the decade, 2009 was also the last year without children in my life. As well as changing everything else, it also changed the amount of time and the way in which I consumed music.
