'Lead around Old Iron'

Enjoy the late sunset light as seen from the Lebuinus Church on the Hanseatic City of Deventer.

Actually I planned to visit the interior of the church - maybe because it's Half Xmas* today - but it was already closed when I arrived there :-(

Nevertheless I got lucky as I asked someone standing in front of the church if he knew when I could visit the inside - did I ever mention that I'm a sundays child? - He appeared to be the tower keeper and he invited me to join him on his last climb of the day.

Did I ever mention that I also have fear of heights too? But I would be crazy to say no to this opportunity to get a view from more than 200 feet (62,5 meter)

I enjoyed Henk explaining all the things we could see in the 25 miles (40 km) along the IJssel river to the horizon, but the most interesting thing was yet to come.

There is a Typical Dutch expression that translates into 'it's just lead around old iron' meaning 'it doesn't matter, it's all the same'.

He pointed out that the origin of that expression was in the banisters right under my nose, so thats why I took this shot at this angle.

It seamed that lead was so much cheaper than steel, so our ancestors cutted costs enforcing the banister this way. We remain Dutch after all :-))

ps. The hand is not accidental, I needed something as reference to dramatize the dimensions.

ps2 (not the playstation ;-)) *Half Xmas, I had never heard of this day, but it seems to exist… maybe a nice thought for an extra feast day??!!
