Blacklow Hill
About the Day
Anticipating I might not be able to take an evening wander, I forsook a Tesco Lamb Hotpot and spent an hour in adjacent fields. The few photos I took were blah. I see the field as use come winter. The ham sandwich I got from the corner shop was gross.
About the Blip
As luck would have it, I was able to get out just after 8:00pm and headed for Leek Wootton. I had suggested to myself that it would be fun to crack into the privately owned wood shrouding Gaveston's Cross atop Blacklow Hill. I had photographed the cross probably twenty years back, but as recently as Christmas, when a day trip to Lakeland went belly up owing to Paul blowing his head gasket, I proposed during beers in the Anchor, that we attempt to get to the cross. We failed and tonight was to be a solo effort.
Encouraged by discovering where the Christmas attempt had gone wrong, I made good time in getting to the requisite field from where the dash to the wood would be made. Success was foiled however, when I discovered the field in question was thickly planted with chest high rapeseed.
The blip is therefore a mere back up. A shot of trig point S5006, the rapeseed and the wood beyond. I will get to the cross another day or another way.
In other News
At 5:30 this morning, Dan headed off for Glastonbury. Dare say I won't hear a peep from him for the next I dunno how many days. Also, Joe asked me to head down to Bristol on Sunday to fetch his bike back. Seemed like a easy excuse for some pickies south-west way.
