Broadbridge Heath Cricket Ground

I pass this ground fairly regularly on my way home from work and usually if I go for a walk near Warnham. This time I was passing by and decided this would be the picture for today.

Broadbridge Heath Cricket Club was established in 1898 and the ground lies on the N side of the village just off the road to Warnham. The setting is semi wooded and very leafy. The clubhouse seems to have had its roof retiled recently and everything looks as immaculate as so many grounds are.

Broadbridge Heath is a comparatively modern village that grew during the 19th Century. Before then, there were only a few farms and the area was a part of the much more distant parish of Sullington under the South Downs. This came about because the area was a woodland pasture belonging to Sullington Manor and this was where pigs would have been fed on acorns in the autumn and wood taken for building and other uses from Saxon times on into the later Middle Ages.
