700 years ago this evening The Battle of Bannockburn began. It concluded with a Scottish victory on Midsummers's Day. The fallout from the victory launched a Golden Age for the Scottish Nation. Interestingly the Scottish climate and not the politics marked the demise of that age of independent prosperity when a mini "ice age" took its toll. The next golden age of Scottish enlightenment happened after The Union. In my view it takes more than just a brave heart who tries to draw a meaningful parallel between the events of 223rd/24th June1314 and 18th September 2014.
