Garratt
This weekend we are spending time with Rich's family. It's his mum's 75th birthday and his sister's birthday - both on the same day.
Rich's Uncle Peter had organised a garden party with all their family coming along too. We have spent some great Boxing Days together but rarely meet in the summer and the last time we all got together was about 3 years ago.
Peter loves trains and over a number of years has built this model railway in his back garden. I find the whole project quite exciting. I'm developing an affection for steam trains from the numerous wonderful photos I've seen on Blip but I like the whole idea of building the railway as an outdoor project.
This train is Peter's pride and joy... a Garratt, if I remember correctly, which is articulated at two points meaning the three shorter sections can negotiate curves better.
It looked lovely as it made its way around the garden woohuhwooing and various other authentic steam engine noises.
Everyone in the family are genuine, easy to talk to types and the barbecue went down a storm. A lovely day with beautiful weather to boot.
I'm wondering if this may be the beginning of my train spotting career.
