The year 2000 came in not with a technological meltdown, but with the usual dazzling array of drunken antics and horrendous hangovers. One act picked up on the fear of modern technology and produced a classic album, a rare 10/10 album. Whilst Under Western Freeway was an excellent album few would have tipped Grandaddy to follow it up with a concept album around the failure and planned obsolescence of modern technology. Their live performances around the time were in complete tune with the album itself - synths wheezing and spluttering as if on there last legs whilst the band teased out soaring melody after soaring melody.
