Meeting Great Grandma and Baby Photo Etiquette

I haven't been blogging or blipping a lot recently, for reasons of recent fatherhood. Many of you may wonder about this, since I've got such a cute photo model at my hand now.

As most of you will have experienced already, lots of parents can't ever get enough pictures of their offspring up to facebook, blipfoto, and everywhere else on the internet. Being a overkillingly data-sensitive German, I'm not so sure about this.

Generally speaking, there's nothing inappropriate or dangerous in a baby's picture, but it is still a picture of a person that will at some point grow old enough to decide by himself whether he would like his baby pictures to be online or not. And since we all know the simultaneously magical and blood-curdling abilities of search engines, internet corporations and social media software to store, match, find and identify every kind of data from text to image, there's a pretty good chance that ten or twenty years from now, when today's kids will get to the point where it's their own decision, these search engines, corporations and social media will still be around and might just show today's kids' pictures on Google next to their CV. Shouldn't it be their own responsiblity to decide if they do?

Hence, no pictures of this little guy on this photoblog. But, as parents do, I still want to brag about how cute he is and everything, so I decided to make a bit of an exception.
