Hazel

Corylus avellana. The evening sun was just catching the hazel leaves as I pottered down the lane with the dog.

No sign of any nuts as yet. Traditionally hazel nut are carried as charms or held to ward off rheumatism. They are certainly very comforting to play with in your pocket. The tree has been thought to have magical properties - a hazel rod can be used in water divining and will also ward off evil spirits...
