Fougeres, Brittany

Backblip

Today spent the day in Fougeres. We've visited before but it's a beautiful medieval town and worth a seeing again. The most striking sight in Fougeres is the huge castle which dates from the 12th century and is largely intact with spectacular ramparts to walk along. The medieval town sprung up on the south side of the castle along the river Nancon and the waters of the river were used by tanners, cloth-makers and dyers.

This shot was taken from the public gardens which are situated on a very steep hillside and are immaculately kept. It looks over the half timbered houses of the medieval district and over towards the magnificent castle.
