Trial

4years 239days

After the studio portrait of yesterday, today's may seem an unimpressive offering. But today's is one of those where I am so thankful for blip. It gives me a place to chronicle something small but huge too (warning: gushing mummy journal entry may follow).

This is Katie doing her first painting at her new school. As this afternoon was her school trial. She has been incredibly excited. She woke at 5am and her first words were "mummy I'm going to big school today, eeeeee!!" She told every single member of staff at nursery. She bounced all morning. She asked me every ten minutes of the afternoon "can we go yet? Is it school now". And she could barely contain herself when, at 340, the answer was yes.

When we arrived, she went straight off with a TA into her classroom while I went for a meeting with her teacher. She did not bat an eyelid. When I came out, I checked on her and the TA said "she's absolutely adorable, she's having a great time". I went inside to order her uniform, book her lunch visit next week and another said "she's lovely, she told me she can read and that she likes numbers then showed me her numbers". Her main teacher commented on how settled and confident she was. I left her for close to half an hour and while I was gone she had tea and played more. When I came back, I stayed in the background and she just got on with it- trying almost everything, talking to all the teaching team.

She loved it. Absolutely loved it. She is ready for it. And after today, after seeing her go in with a massive smile, work it all out, be confident enough to go explore independently, I am so excited for her. The head of the department said on our way out "I would definitely call that one successful visit". And she's so right. Very very proud mama today. Well done baby girl. This painting is one for the scrapbook!
