Iceland Day 1 - Harpa Concert Hall
Well I've finally made it to Iceland, after my flight was delayed by nearly an hour, although I wasn't the last to arrive, another flight was also delayed. There are 5 of us in our group, although there are currently only 2 blippers, me and John Gravett, although there are a couple of others who are LPH vetrans.
After a brief introduction from John and Christian, our Icelandic Guide, we headed out into Reykjavik for dinner, which consisted of Minke Whale steak burger, which was very tasty, and as somebody said not at all like fish!
After dinner we then walked back through the city centre to the hotel taking pictures as we went. We called in to the Harpa Concert Hall which is a modern (very tasteful) glass building right on the waterfront. The windows on the outside were all very geometric and were randomly coloured. We then went inside, and it was stunning. There were was not a straight or parallel edge in the building. According to my guide book, the building was designed by Olafur Eliasson to resemble the mosaic-like basalt columns scattered throughout Iceland.
It certainly did that, I hope that this picture goes someway to showing what an extraordinary interior this building has. Well off to bed as it is past midnight and although it still broad daylight outside, I am somewhat tired.
