Lanercost Priory
This afternoon we ventured across the border to Cumbria and visited Lanercost Priory. The priory itself was founded in 1169 and survived until 1538 when the monastic house was closed and the north isle of the priory became the parish church which remains today. The ruins of the remaining priory surround the church and can be seen through the large window above the alter as seen in this photograph. It's quite an atmospheric place having witnessed very many chapters in border history.
