Looking up...

Civil war reporter

We went to watch the re-enactment again today and the battle was one from 1644.

This time the Parliamentary forces won and took Malmesbury back, yay! They showed no mercy to the Royalists, finishing off any soldiers still groaning on the ground, and there was the unfortunate incident of a 'turncoat' being executed. But he was back on his feet five minutes later along with everyone else and all was forgiven.

So this was how we secured our parliamentary democracy, which is something to be proud of, although the current crop of politicians are not exactly inspiring.

And while King Charles I was finally executed in 1649 on the orders of parliament for high treason against the English people, the monarchy has also survived, but without the power it once had.

This 17th century 'reporter' is painting a picture of the battle for the purposes of recording what happened. To be honest, I just loved his beard so he had to be my blip today.

We've had a busy weekend with lots of visitors, and another busy week to come. It's all good!
