The Kennet

Lovely afternoon on the Leeds Liverpool Canal, plenty boats moored up ready to head down the Wigan Flight of 21 locks, early Saturday morning. One owner told me the last time she did this, single handed, it took her nine hours.

Among all of the narrowboats, the steel plates of The Kennet stood out. Built to carry cargo on the LLC in 1947 she was later used for canal maintenance before being refitted as a heritage exhibition boat in 1986.

Since 2011 and a Lottery funded refurbishment The Kennet has become an interactive museum taking heritage and learning resources to local communities and schoolchildren.

Have a great weekend whatever you're doing : )
