Scabiosa is commonly called the pinchusion flower because the round, promiment stamens in the centre look like pins in a pincushion.
These nectar rich flowers are known to attract butterflies in the garden...thats why I love to grow them!

Other names include Scabious, Egyptian Bride, Starflower Pincushion.
The name Scabiosa comes from the Latin word meaning 'the itch' because it was once thought to be a remedy for the named skin disease.
'Butterfly Blue' is one of the most popular cultivars used in butterfly gardens. In the language of flowers, scabiosa means 'unfortunate love'
