Burgess

A lot of cycling today, for Arlo not me, it's safe to say he loves his new bike. We were up and down the street countless times and then a longer cycle to the park and back. Thankfully not in the pouring rain this time.

1990 and I was starting to become a fully fledged music fan. There's one band who were firm favourites at the time and that was The Charlatans. They were the first "indie" artist who's t-shirt I proudly wore, I wrote a review of Some Friendly as part of my school work and then the real turning point Tim Burgess appearing on the cover of the NME. My first copy of NME, a paper I would subsequently read religiously until about 6 years ago when I realised the quality of writing had gone down the pan. It's safe to say that the NME, Select and the Evening Session were the key educators in my new musical journey. It probably wasn't my favourite Charlatans tune at the time, but Sproston Green was always the highlight of a Charlatans live set.
