Lagoa do Fogo, Azores

Another busy day, but the latter half of the day was spent driving round various sites on the island of São Miguel in the Azores with a colleague who had hired a car.

This is a shot of Lagoa do Fogo or Lake of Fire. This picture was taken from high up on the rim of the now dormant volcano looking down on the lake. In the background through the gap is the north coast of São Miguel and the Atlantic Ocean.

São Miguel is a truly beautiful island covered with flowers and having the most stunning coastline and an interior that has many dormant volcanoes and hot springs. It has fabulous scenery and amazingly diverse sea life and a wonderfully temperate climate. It is a place that is well worth visiting and I hope I get the chance to come back some day.
