Now Worn Out. Officially.
This is Royal York Crescent in Clifton, Bristol, very close to the Clifton Suspension Bridge. This row of houses, which is now mainly flats, is reputedly the longest Georgian terrace in Europe and was built in 1820.
We all met up for lunch on the patio of the hotel overlooking the bridge. Gorgeous weather, and so warm that we had to move tables 3 times, getting gradually closer to the shade, until we all managed to be shaded.
After lunch we had a short walk round Clifton, then we departed with the children, to drive home. We left our son and daughter in law there, as he has a business meeting, then they will return to us tomorrow for a weekend of friends and BBQs, weather permitting.
After 1 hour we had driven 10 miles. Only another 60 or so miles to go then.
Two hours into the journey the baby woke, so we found a layby for a bottle of milk (baby) and 2 bananas (Kai).
We eventually arrived home at quarter to nine, nearly 4 hours drive.
Apart from the fact I'm almost hoarse with singing Old Mac Donald, Ten Green Bottles, There was an old lady who swallowed a fly, and every other song that we knew the words to, ( and loads we didn't know the words to), the journey was so much better than it could have been. The children were amazing, and we had only two bouts of "are we nearly there" and one crying episode and both of those were within 8 miles of home.
Fed children, bathed them, stories, milk. Just eaten our dinner with a glass of wine.
Off to bed to dream of a lovely week away with our grandsons. A week today they will have gone, and it will probably be two years until they are back again.
As Kai said tonight "it's a long wait until we're back again Nan. I'll ask Dad if it can be sooner because I'll be sad."
Moi aussi.
