D-Day - 70 Years on.
A poppy to remember my friend, the Brigadier, who was one of the first to crawl ashore on Sword Beach, in the early hours of 6 June 1944. Only a handful of his unit made it to the orchard rendezvous, a few miles inland in German-occupied France. It was special to hear his story first hand, and about the plans leading up to D-Day.
Moving photographs on the BBC website today from the Normandy Beaches. We've been to Arromanches, Ouistreham, Pegasus Bridge, Caen, and many of the cemeteries. Unforgettable, such a huge loss of life.
It reached 22C in Glasgow today, tomorrow it looks like we might have to batten down the hatches.
