Chanticleers

These roosters were roaming around their rather extensive fenced yard this morning, scuffling through the leaves for some food. I lost count of how many roosters and chickens there were. No chicks were in sight today, although I have seen both the hens and the roosters parading around with them on other days. According to Wikipedia, roosters are polygamous, and often have nests with multiple hens at one time. They try to "roost" in a position where they can protect as many of the offspring as possible. The varieties pictured here seem to be Orpintgon, Sussex, and Barred Plymouth Rock. Today I had pictures of lone roosters, group shots, and even one of a chicken crossing the road (he had escaped the confines of the fence.) Since they aren't always easy to capture, I chose the chickens over other photos I had taken.
