Walking Tour
While walking around Houston I discovered a series of quotes embedded into the paving of the sidewalks over several blocks. This one particularly caught my eye, from a Houston newspaper. It reads:
It is a source of much astonishment and of considerable severe comment upon the religious character of our city, that while we have a theatre, a court house, a jail and even a capital in Houston we have not a single church. The people seem to have forgotten that ‘Righteousness exalteth a nation.’
The Morning Star, 1839
The last part of the quote is from Proverbs 14.34
How times have changed. There is now a church on almost every corner!
