Sandscale
Today we went to find the tiny CoralRoot Orchid. It grows in dune slacks, and is parasitic on fungi that grow with the low willow scrub. It is very particular about the dampness of soil it will live with, and all of these factors combine to make it quite rare.
We were lucky to be shown around by the National Trust Ranger, who drove us out to the coralroot site, and also showed us Bee orchid (my favourite) and Early Marsh orchid.
Finally we saw the Natterjack Toad pools, where the tiny toadlets are starting to emerge.
This is a very special nature reserve, and well worth a visit.
