Trevaunance Cove on the SW Coast Path
Lucky with the weather again today. Dark, stormy clouds inland but lighter clouds and blue skies offshore. This was another excellent walk, just over 6 1/2 miles from Perranporth to St Agnes Head. This was a linear walk - 3 cars set off for the destination, two were left there and we all returned to Perrancoomb ready for the off.
So much to see; the great views of cliff and coast, a profusion of wild flowers, spectacular geology and much evidence of old industrial workings - mines, spoil heaps and buildings.
There was one fascinating block of granite that was shot through with veins of dark minerals, not copper or zinc just a dark material which solidified in the cracks and joints of the cooling granite. The cliffs bore evidence of mining activities, galleries that ended in a cliff face as they followed the vein. Stains of minerals, brown and blue, painted the cliff face in shrouds of colour.
After 5 miles or more we came down to the beach at Trevaunance Cove, meeting these two people toiling their way uphill. They gave us courage as they were obviously much older than us, perhaps in their 80s. But very cheerful, advising us to take care and not to run!
A pub, the Driftwood Spar provided a welcoming watering hole where we enjoyed a refreshing drink before tackling the last couple if miles to St Agnes Head and the waiting cars.
The evening meal was fish and chips brought in from the shop in Perranporth. We just had chips as we needed to finish off the remains of yesterday's spaghetti bolognese. Complete with mushy peas. Leftover syrup sponge pudding for afters.
