St Ives, Cornwall
A very dramatic day in St Ives. We were blessed with dry weather with some sunshine while to the north heavy clouds bore down on the land. It looked as if they were copping it over there. You wouldn't know it from this shot of the harbour, beach and town though as the sky is quite benign, what can be seen of it.
We were here last September when we also enjoyed the trip into St Ives from the Park and Ride from Leylant Saltings around the headlands from the estuary and through Carbis Bay. Great views from this little railway. I left the mobile phone in the car so had to go back on the next train to collect it, so enjoyed the journey an extra two times.
St Ives is full of artists galleries, shops and the like, it's the light that apparently attracts them to live and work in the town. I can see what they mean, there seems to be a special quality to the light. The beach front, harbour, boats, sand seawall and shops all make a very pleasant aspect which I've tried to capture in this shot.
A good lunch was followed by a walk around the headland to the West Beach where we sat in the sun enjoying the view across the beach to the turquoise sea. Then it was back to the station to catch the train en route back to Westmount Haven and our turn to cook dinner for 8 people. Spag bol followed by steamed syrup pudding.
