Chook

Didn't see that one coming...

Wasn't expecting today to be anything other than routine, but it has turned out a day of extremes.

After an uneventful ward round, I got a page that said, 'come to birthing suite NOW. Extreme prem* delivering.'

Oh bother.

Thankfully all went well and we shipped a teeny tiny baby off to a neonatal intensive care unit in good condition. As they rolled out the door, we moved our sweaty bodies away from the 37-degree radiant heater used to keep infants warm, and sat down for a drink and a deep breath.

At the other end of the spectrum, I met the biggest neonate I've ever seen- close to twice the average size...

The outside temperature today is over 35 degrees. It's forecast to warm up over the weekend and reach 41 on Monday. Have arrived home and cranked up the air-conditioning, which has made things far more pleasant.

A night in tonight. Lebanese take-away as a little celebration of work successes, followed by lounging on the couch, watching a DVD and keeping cool. Heading to the couch now. Quite possible I'll fall asleep before J is home.

And... a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to B over in Canada. Hope you manage some cake while on the dog sled...

*A baby born over three months early.
