Defenestration, by Brian Goggin. Sixth and Howard, San Francisco.
Since 1997, the empty Hugo Hotel has been the site of Brian Goggin's art piece, Defenestration. It was meant to be a 6-month exhibit, the furniture flying out of the windows and walking across the walls, but the community worked to keep it around longer and it became a neighborhood landmark. On Tuesday, after 17 years, the furniture will start to come down and will be auctioned off, and in a few months' time the old hotel will be demolished to make way for affordable housing. I'll load some additional pictures to Flickr soon.
A day of ups and downs. A good walk along the beach and a picnic lunch with my uncles in Potrero Hill. Horrible, horrible traffic all across SF, and we were involved in a car crash - everyone is ok. The afternoon was understandably subdued afterwards so we took a gentle walk around the neighborhood and the Starr King Open Space and then early dinner at Chez Papa Bistrot on 18th.
