Head Cases
Leeds/Liverpool Canal, Nr Saltaire. W. Yorks. UK
The Saltaire trip boat proved a big head turner for these kids who seem to be testing out the latest idea that a cycle helmet is as good or as useless as non at all.
(Research shows), possibly a cowboy hat or no headgear at all is a suitable alternative for protecting the skull as it encourages drivers to keep at a greater distance than wearing a helmet. Apparently drivers will keep 8cm further away from a cyclist who is NOT wearing a helmet.
On Radio 4, a neurosurgeon said that foam helmets do nothing to protect the skull - this was countered by another medic who said that the neurosurgeon does not see the many people sent home by A & E who have been saved by their helmet!
This was discussed on radio 4 on the 'Today' programme and P.M.
Any thoughts?
Do you or don't you?
