Dunkeld's Telford bridge
Our five mile world includes in its outer limits, the picturesque village of Dunkeld where we are blessed with a great selection of shops and pubs.
A couple of years ago we decided to 'shop local' 'use it or lose it' and avoid supprting the giant supermarkets. It makes no financial sense at all to do this, but what we have discovered, is the pleasure we feel in our weekly pilgrimage to the village. We enjoy chatting to Jim in the bank, Andy in the post office, Alex and Ruth in the Deli, Brian in the butchers, Carol in the Pharmacy, Nan in the bookshop and have a strong sense of living in a community.
The gossip highlight of the week was when the Fire brigade spent 4 hours removing 3ft long icicles from the roof tops,
I always marvel at this bridge which spans across the majestic river Tay linking the two villages of Birnam and Dunkeld. It is one of many bridges designed by Thomas Telford. a Scottish civil engineer and was completed in 1809.
Next week (15th) heralds the start of the salmon fishing season. There's a Blip opportunity!
Tonight we are still struggling with frozen pipes, drains and the prospect of temperatures of minus 20c!
Love being so cosy in our wee cottage.
keep warm all you blippers!
