Back to the Cob

A complete contrast to yesterday.
Little in the way of sunshine, but then, we weren't expecting any.

Expecting a dull day we decided to visit the village of Tyneham - the Dorset village that was forcibly evacuation in 1943. The residents were given a month to move out to allow the MoD access and solitude to use the valley without interruptions. The villagers were told they would be allowed back after the war, but they never were. The land surrounding the village is part of a live range. But, over recent years, access has been granted for the public to visit the now dilapidated village. And very interesting it is too.

This is one of Dorset's best kept secrets. The views from a couple of lookout points on the access road are superb. The old farm has been restored, if that is the right word, to something like it was the day the farm was left. It's like a mini Threlkeld - I could have spent hours there alone.

Then a very late lunch at Corfe and back to the cottage.

This evening we did something that we've not done since being kids. We went out for fish & chips. Not in it's own special of course. But, tonight, it was bought on the sea front at Lyme Regis and eaten sat on a bench on the Cob overlooking the harbour as it was getting dark. We watched the gulls wheel and soar and a couple of young lads crabbing off the harbour wall.

A walk to the end of the wall (being repaired in places after the recent storm damage) and, from around the corner, this boat appeared on it's way back to the harbour. Then gull flew into shot. Perfect!

Best viewed Large to see the tree trunks and stuff strewn over the rocks.
