Crispin Hall

As this inscription above the main entrance explains, the Crispin Hall, on the corner of the High Street, was originally built as a Library and meeting place for the improvement and entertainment of its workers by Clark's, the Quaker shoe company. Crispin is the Patron Saint of cobblers.

It now houses, amongst other things, a cafe, a haberdasher's, a picture framer's and a hall where weekly markets and other events take place.

After living here for 35 years, I've only just noticed this inscription!

Golf this morning and an hour in the bank this afternoon reorganising accounts after their latest change (i.e. lowering)in interest rates meant we had to change to a new account to get a similar deal to our old one. They're very crafty the way they introduce these changes with minimum publicity.

Took this on the walk home when the colours, textures and pattern of stone and tiles caught my eye.
