Fulmars at the Butt
Today's the day ...................... to follow in the footsteps
Before we came to the Hebrides, I started reading the totally absorbing Lewis trilogy books of Peter May.
If you ever plan to come to this part of the world, I thoroughly recommend them to give you an idea of the very particular scenery, weather, people and culture that is to be found here. His books have reached an almost cult status - especially in France, where they appeared in print first - and his followers are keen to see the exact locations where his characters have supposedly done whatever they have in the story.
I am no exception - and neither are Paula and Gordon who are also Peter May fans. They were on Lewis not so long ago and I have been following in their footsteps trying to find the same places that they did.
This shot was taken at the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse which features in one of the books. It is an striking place to be at any time - and today the sea was lashing at the base of the impressive cliffs on which these fulmars were peacefully nesting ......................
