Glencoe
The sombre valley of Glencoe, scene of the massacre of Glencoe, one of the bloodiest and saddest episodes in Scottish history, when thirty-eight men of the Clan MacDonald were massacred and a further forty women and children died of exposure after their homes had been burned. Briefly, the chief of the Clan MacDonald, due to age, ill health and appalling winter weather, was late reaching Edinburgh to sign allegiance to new monarchs, William and Mary, and for this the order was given for the clan to be massacred and their homes burned.
Many thanks indeed to all those who made lovely comments and awarded hearts and stars to yesterday’s ‘Castle Stalker’. Your kindness and your patience with my lack of comments is much appreciated. On the subject of the castle, apparently although it has the appearance of a ruin, it has actually been restored and is fully habitable.
