Doha Days

I was being driven to another meeting in the HQ of Supreme Education Council today when I spotted this sticker. My driver told me that in the run up to the point when the decision was made by FIFA to award the World Cup to Qatar these stickers were on virtually every car here. Two years on the mood has changed. The Qataris are planning for, building for and tunnelling for World Cup glory. Their efforts are being undermined by an anti Qatari bandwagon. The President of FIFA appears now to be in the vanguard of that assault when reported, allegedly, to have said it was a mistake to award the tournament here in 2022. With the evening temperature currently hovering above 34 degrees the thought of playing 90 minutes of football at any level does seem to be quite a big mistake!
